The purpose of the Orange Order in thre UK can be summarised as:
reply to this comment Tuesday, 23.03.04, 20:49:19To Maintain intact the Protestant Constitution and Christian heritage of the United Kingdom.
To cultivate Christian character, promote brotherly love and fellowship.
To expose and resist by all lawful means every system opposed to the mental, political and spiritual freedom of the individual.
The Protestant ethic is one of tolerance of other faiths and ideals. It is this tolerance and liberty that the Orange Order promotes and defends.
Ideals of a "Sir Knight" of the Royal Grand Black Chapter of the Commonwealth
reply to this comment Monday, 29.03.04, 21:17:42"All members must support and promote the Protestant religion. All must support and defend her present Majesty the Queen, her heirs and successors being Protestant. All must conduct themselves as loyal subjects of the constitution of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. All must at all times uphold the honour of Brother Sir Knights, and all must conduct themselves with honour and soberity".
By adhering to these basis tenants all members of the Royal Black Institution create a organisation which prides itself in its Protestantism, its loyalty, its sense of Brotherhood and its good works. Each member is an ambassador for these guiding principles which embodied good Christian values and Public Witness.
A Sir Knight should at all times:-
Be true and faithful to the Order at all times
Spread the Gospel of His Christian Knighthood
Uphold the honour and virtue of every Sir Knight
Assist those who are less fortunate than himself
Support his Preceptory and elected Officers
Live up to the high principles of the Order
Be faithful to God, Church, Queen and the Commonwealth

1. "TOWARD GOD - An applicant for admission should have a sincere love and veneration for his Heavenly Father: a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, as the only Mediator between God and man; and a firm reliance in the guiding, witnessing, and sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit. He should be a diligent reader of God's Word, a sincere observer of the Lord's Day, and a regular attendant at His house; endeavouring to bring forth the practical fruits of righteousness and obedience to God's commands, as a humble and consistent servant of God and a follower of his Saviour".
2. "TOWARD QUEEN AND COUNTRY - He should be loyal in thought, word and act toward the Crown, being Protestant; seeking the prosperity and integrity of the Constitutional Monarchy; strengthening its concepts and supporting the principles which have been the foundation of the Dominion of Canada; ready to promote civil and religious liberty; to maintain the Protestant faith as the purest form of Christianity, and the basis of constitutional Government, by the people, for the people, and to foster unity and Godliness in Canada and throughout the Commonwealth."
3. "TOWARD MANKIND - He should be of temperate and kindly habits, striving to be an example to others, as a true Christian citizen. He should abstain from swearing and profane language, from dishonesty and from intemperance of every kind. He should seek the welfare of others, be just, considerate and tolerant in his judgment, especially to those who are opposed in faith and principles, and to promote the spirit of friendliness and brotherly love."
"The Glory of God, the Welfare of Man, the Honour of his Sovereign, and the Good of his Country should be the motives of all his actions."
