British Lotto fund to aid Army veterans

Army veterans are to be assisted in a campaign to ease the transition from military to civilian life.

The BIG Lottery Fund will put £35m towards the Forces in Mind programme. BIG intends to establish an independent trust to provide support for those who served in conflicts including Iraq, Afghanistan and the Gulf War.

Experts said the transition from forces to civilian life is traumatic and can lead to depression, homelessness and even suicide.

Lottery Fund chairman Sir Clive Booth said: “Supporting organisations that make a difference to those who have served their country is a priority for us.”
