Qualifications of an Orangeman according to the Grand Lodge of Ireland

An Orangeman should have a sincere love and veneration for his Heavenly Father;

A humble and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, the Saviour of mankind, believing in Him as the only Mediator between God and man.

He should cultivate truth and justice, brotherly kindness and charity, devotion and piety, concord and unity, and obedience to the laws;

His deportment should be gentle and compassionate, kind and courteous;

He should seek a society of the virtuous, and avoid that of the evil;

He should honour and diligently study the Holy Scriptures, and make them the rule of his faith and practice;

He should love, uphold, and defend the Protestant religion, and sincerely desire and endeavour to propagate its doctrines and precepts;

He should strenuously oppose the fatal errors and doctrines of the Church of Rome, and scrupulously avoid countenancing (by his presence or otherwise) any act of ceremony of Popish worship;

He should by all lawful means, resist the ascendancy of that Church, its encroachments, and the extension of its power, ever abstaining from all uncharitable words, actions or sentiments, towards his Roman Catholic brethren;

He should remember to keep holy the Sabbath day, and attend the public worship of God, and diligently train up his offspring, and all under his control, in the fear of God, and in the Protestant faith;

He should never take the name of God in vain, but abstain from all cursing and profane language, and use every opportunity of discouraging these, and all other sinful practices, in others; his conduct should be guided by wisdom and prudence, and marked by honesty, temperance, and sobriety;

The glory of God and the welfare of man, the honour of his Sovereign, and the good of his country, should be the motive of his actions.

Order wishes Dr Paisley a happy retirement

Order wishes happy retirement

The Orange Order said that the DUP man had "strode across the British and Irish political scene like a giant for many years". In a statement it continued: “No-one could ignore his forthright views and while not everyone agreed with him, his personal commitment was never in doubt.

“He has been particularly supportive of the Institution during the current campaign of arson attacks on Orange halls.

“We wish Dr Paisley a long and happy retirement.”

WE here at the Orange Chronicle would also like to add or congratulations and wish Dr Paisley well in his continued work as an MP, MLA and most importantly as a Minister of the Gospel. Northern Ireland is truly in a new era of peace and prosperity for all it`s people and the future of Ulster is in local hands. Sinn Fein have reversed their previous stances on the police, courts and indeed on participation in the Stormont government in Belfast and the terrorist campaigns by Republican and Loyalist paramilitaries has ended (fruitless as they were).

Order says it would welcome money from Irish government

THE Orange Order has stated it would welcome any financial assistance forthcoming from the Irish government.

Weekend newspaper coverage reported Orange lodges in border counties are set to receive more than £70,000 in grant aid.

Grand Secretary of the Order Drew Nelson confirmed discussions were taking place but were at a preliminary stage.

He also admitted the funding would be used to employ a development officer to promote community activities in Orange halls in Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim and Donegal.

Mr Nelson believes any grant would "begin to address the issue of alienation among the Protestant community in the border counties".
He said: "We have been talking to various departments in the Irish government for some time on issues of capacity building and recognition in the Republic.
"One of those schemes is funding for a development officer to work with groups that work in Orange halls with a view to develop community capacity."

Christmas Orangefest a major success

Based on a story from the (Belfast / Ulster) News Letter

Orangefest a major success

ORANGEFEST had a Yuletide theme for more than 150 guests at Shankill Orange Hall. At Home for Christmas brought together Lord Mayor Jim Rogers (Ulster Unionist), Deputy Mayor Bernie Kelly (SDLP) , DUP MLA Nigel Dodds as well as scores of schoolchildren from across the Province to usher in the Christmas season.

The event was aimed at giving thanks to those who had helped make this year's Orangefest a success, with guests enjoying mulled wine, festive flings by the Ballysillan Highland Dancers, and the tones of Harmony Primary School's choir. William Mawhinney, development officer for Belfast's Orangefest, said: "It was a get-together soiree for all those who have participated over the years, just to offer our lodge as an open house, and to invite people from 'across the divide'."

The seasonal cheer was also on display among young Orangefest enthusiasts, as prizes were awarded to youngsters for the School's Out competition, which asked children to send in their artistic impressions of the Twelfth.

Among the memorable entries was a drawing by eight-year-old Brooke Bittles, from Cranmore Integrated School, who impressed judges with her depiction of bands and paradesmen. "It's bringing a bit of . our own tradition to people, and reaching out," said Mr Mawhinney. "I think Orangefest's Christmas message is one of peace and goodwill to all. It's about celebrating our own culture as Orangemen and women, as well as encouraging respect for one another's traditions, particularly at this unique time of year."

The Glorious Twelfth

The Glorious Twelfth

lk

The Orange Order Twelfth of July celebrations took place across Ulster and various other locations around the world in recent days. The main demonstrations take place on the 12th July annually to commemorate the Battle Of The Boyne which culminated in William Of Orange becoming King Of England, defeating deposed King James. William was part of the League of Augsburg aligned against the despotic King of France. William and Mary`s (who was King James`s daughter) joint ascension to the throne brought about the "Glorious Revolution" which saw the birth of modern democracy - the 1688 Bill Of Rights (this was also the basis for the American Declaration Of Independence) and the supremacy of Parliament rather than the "divine right of Kings" (and in so doing ushering in an end to tyrannical and arbitrary powers).

The Orange Chronicle has been very busy and has collected video footage from across the Province which is viewable in our forums. The 12th July Boyne celebrations are also a time when the Order reaffirms it`s ethos and puts Christ to the fore. Whilst the Order is active in many charitable, historical and cultural projects it must always be remembered that the Orange Order is primarily a Christian organisation founded on Scripture.

The Orange religious services and resolutions can also be viewed via our forum section where the Order reaffirms it`s commitment to the Reformed Christian Faith and the belief that salvation is by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ Our Lord alone.
